It may be significant to note that Box CEO Aaron Levie has always insisted that his company is a thought leader in this space and that competitors like Dropbox copycat his company and deliver functionalities many years later. Project Infinite was given the name Smart Sync last January and made available to select Dropbox for Business customers at that time. It’s also important to note that Box Drive is in public beta right now, so it’s not quite ready for prime time.ĭropbox Told This Story More Than One Year Agoĭropbox introduced a similar capability codenamed Project Infinite in April of 2016. And for Box, it’s a way to help itself and its IT customers bring reluctant end users and their content into the fold because the experience shouldn’t be as disruptive as working in the browser has been. IT administrators, provided they trust Box, won’t have to stress as much about security or sprawl on network drives. Business users who don’t like the experience they get from Box will now be able to work with their content in a way that is familiar to them and won’t have to worry about clogging-up their hard drives. It’s an excellent new feature with winners all around. It does this by streaming files from the cloud to your endpoint just as you need them. In other words, Box Drive allows you to work with your content stored in Box just the same way you would as if it was stored on your desktop. This morning enterprise cloud content collaboration provider Box unveiled Box Drive, calling it “a new way to connect your desktop and the cloud into one secure, seamless experience.”
